We got the building permit yesterday. The building permit is 2% of the renovation costs, certificate of occupancy (paid in advance) and the building permit fee.
Now we can focus on getting the footing dug for the 18 x 18 2-story addition. Afterwards, the footing will be inspected, the concrete poured and then inspected again. The mason will then lay the block on top of the poured footing and insert plate bolts.
The framers will begin framing in 4 or 5 weeks (the end of September). They’ll install the Andersen windows and French doors in the new addition and John will install the windows in the old part of the house.
They’ll also install dimensional shingles on the entire house and John will do the siding and exterior trim.
In the meantime, I have to decide on whether we go with HardiPlank or cedar siding.
