Today: Mixing Thinset for Laying Bathroom Tile

First of all, this is the second day in a row that we have been lucky to have very warm weather. It’s 77 degrees outside but feels like 80 in the sun. The temperature in the house is ambient and ideal for laying the Daltile mosaic tile on the bathroom floor in the guest bedroom.

We still don’t have running water so John stopped off at Home Depot and purchased a couple of their handy 5-gallon orange buckets and filled them up with water at the store.

First, he poured Versabond mortar thinset into  a spare bucket.

Then he added Home Depot water. Even though we spend money daily at Home Depot, in no way shape or form, am I affiliated with the company.

John attached the spinner mixing tool to his drill and began mixing–really no different than the way you would mix cake batter. I made a comment to John that the mixing step “looks kind of fun.” However, I didn’t get a response.

After mixing the mortar, John added more water.

He continued mixing the “mortar batter.”

The thinset had a nice consistency and looked good.

Mixed to perfection and ready to be taken upstairs.

    1. Hopefully the rain will cease in the PCN. It’s unbelievable what has happened in eastern Texas and other areas due to all the rain. Just saw another clip on the nightly news, absolute devastation.
