I Met One of the 17 Presidential Candidates

I should actually say I served one of the presidential candidates. It was about a year and a half ago. I was working a flight out of Florida. At the time it was rumored he might run for president.

The former governor who will remain nameless walked onboard and sat down in first-class. (I’ve had governors and former governors on previous flights, and believe it or not, several have sat in economy/coach.)

From the moment he sat down, he was absolutely absorbed in his smartphone. The only time he looked up was when I asked him which meal he would like for dinner.

He was focused on whatever he was reading on his phone for about three hours, made zero chit chat, drank lot of water, and then we landed.

He dropped out of the presidential race fairly early.

  1. I read this at the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston:

“Win as if you were used to it, lose as if you enjoyed it.” It’s apparently a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.

I think all of the past, present and future candidates could take a lesson from that.
