Did you know National Lobster Day was on June 15th? I intended to write this blog post two days ago but I was away working and it slipped my mind.
Hands down, without a doubt, Red’s Eats in Wiscasset makes the best, most abundant and most delicious lobster roll that I have ever had in Maine. It’s stuffed with a pound of lobster meat, including claws and tail with a side of butter to drizzle on top. Undoubtedly delicious!
I’ve had a lot of lobster rolls up and down the coast of Maine and sometimes I have been left disappointed. But in the case of Red’s Eats I would bet anyone that you won’t be disappointed. It’s all about consistency, freshness and the fact that they don’t skimp on premium lobster meat.
If you have the opportunity to visit this fun little eatery while driving up or down coastal Route 1, it’s a must that you add this pit stop to your must-do list.
For years, we have avoided what seems like a perpetual long line at Red’s Eats by arriving at about 11:15AM, just before opening. The little red and white shack is on the corner of Route 1/Main Street. It’s prime downtown village location is steps before the bridge crossing over the Sheepscot River.

Red’s Eats is a seasonal, CASH only business. For those of you planning an autumn leaf-peeping trip in October, keep in mind the lobster shack closes around Columbus Day.
About the photo: I started looking through my thousands of travel photos knowing I had a photo of Red’s Eats somewhere. I couldn’t find a more recent photo which is on my old Android buried in a box somewhere, however, I stumbled upon this one taken in late October, 2008. Red’s had already closed for the season. On this particular trip, we were headed north to Bar Harbor.
